India coach Gautam Gambhir was a very happy man when Rinku Singh ended up being the gamechanger for India during their 3rd T20I win over Sri Lanka in Pallekelle on July 30, Tuesday. Rinku picked up 2 wickets in the 19th over as he was given the tough job of defending 9 runs from 12 balls as Sri Lanka were chasing 138 runs to win the game and get some consolation. India had already won the series.

The cameras were on Gambhir during the penultimate over as Rinku took the ball in what was a very bold call from the Indian team. The southpaw, who was bowling gentle off-spin, was up against Kusal Perera. The Sri Lankan batter was on 46 and looked set to be the matchwinner when Rinku flipped the script of the game. The first ball was darted straight at Perera and the second one saw the Sri Lankan batter sky the ball in the air. Rinku made no mistake and completed the catch when the camera captured coach Gambhir having a big smile on his face.

Rinku would then go on to pick up one more wicket as he dismissed Ramesh Mendis to end the over on a high.

What happened after the Rinku Singh over?

Following the completion of 6 balls from Rinku, captain Suryakumar Yadav stepped up to deliver the final over and picked up 2 wickets to put Sri Lanka in all sorts of trouble. The hosts were able to push the game to a super over to add to the excitement of the game.

Sri Lanka would bat first and India handed the ball to Washington Sundar. The off-spinner would deliver for his side and conceded just 2 runs and picked up 2 wickets as India had victory in sight.

Suryakumar would then get the win with a boundary off the first ball to seal the win and the series. The action now shifts to ODIs as India and Sri Lanka with the first match of the series happening on August 2.
