Rohan Jaitley is the frontrunner to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary after Jay Shah vacates the post in November. Shah was elected unopposed as the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in August and he is all set to assume the top job on December 1.
Rohan Jaitley, currently the president of the Delhi cricket body, and Anil Patel, the secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, will compete for the secretary post, India Today has learnt. No Special General Meeting (SGM) will be called to discuss the next secretary's appointment. Rohan Jaitley is the favourite to replace Jay Shah.
Jay Shah has been the secretary of the BCCI since 2019, after entering the world of cricket administration through the Gujarat Cricket Association in 2009. Shah has been instrumental in the BCCI's praiseworthy functioning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the other hand, Rohan Jaitley's journey in cricket administration began about four years ago when he was elected as the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), a position his father held for 14 years. He was re-elected unopposed for a second term, underscoring his acceptance and effectiveness in the role.
Under his leadership, the DDCA has seen several reforms and improvements. Jaitley oversaw the successful hosting of five ODI World Cup matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and initiated the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League, which has featured notable cricketers like Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma.
Roger Binny is set to continue as the president of the BCCI and oversee the operations of the board while working closely with the newly elected secretary.
