Aman Sehrawat advanced to the semi-final of the men’s 57kg event in wrestling in Paris Olympics 2024. On Thursday, August 8, he defeated Albania’s Abarakov Zelimkhan 12-0 via technical superiority in the quarterfinal at Champ-de-Mars Arena Mat A.

The 21-year-old has a tough task in hand as he is next set to lock horns with top seed Rei Higuchi from Japan, who got the better of Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz in the other quarterfinal. Aman is now one win short of securing a medal for India in the ongoing quadrennial event.

Aman started the day in a handsome manner after beating North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov 10-0 on technical superiority. Aman is the only wrestler in India’s six-member wrestling contingent in Paris.

Earlier in the day, India’s Anshu Malik lost her Round of 16 bout to America's Helen Louise Maroulis in the women’s 57kg event. She lost the match 7-2 against the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist. Anshu would only go to the repechage if Helen goes through to the final.

For now, Helen has advanced to the semis after beating Ukraine’s Alina Hrushyna 7-4 in the quarterfinal. Anshu’s fate is now dependant on Helen’s semi-final later tonight against Japan’s Tsugumi Sakurai.
