Team India captain Rohit Sharma seems to be still basking in the glory of winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The men in blue defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final of the showpiece event in Barbados, ending the 11-year-long drought of an ICC title. The World Champions received a rousing reception on their homecoming and they did a victory parade in Mumbai after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.
Earlier this year, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had promised the Indian cricket fans that the team, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, will win the trophy and unfurl the tri-colour in the Caribbean. On June 29, India scripted history in Barbados and their captain planted the national flag at Kensington Oval following the T20 World Cup triumph.
Days after making the entire nation proud, Rohit put his photo, of planting the Indian flag in Barbados, as his profile picture on microblogging site X.
But in doing so, the Indian skipper has lost his verification badge, i.e., the blue tick. This is because the X has a clause where the “subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo, but if they do they’ll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.”
‘Hard to sum up what we have been through’
After losing two ICC event finals in a span of 12 months, Rohit’s Team India finally lifted the trophy in the West Indies. Speaking at the post-match presentation last Saturday, the Indian captain said the victory against South Africa was the outcome of the hard work that the team has been doing for the last 3-4 years.
“To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team, a lot has gone on behind the scenes for us to be here today and win this game. It is not what we did today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. That’s the result that has come for us today,” Rohit had said.
“We have played lots of high-pressure games in the past as well and have been on the wrong side as well. But the guys understand what needs to be done. Today was the perfect example of when the back is against the wall, what is required. We stuck together as a team,” he added.
