Aman Sehrawat gets Railways promotion after bronze medal win at Paris Olympics

The Northern Railways gave a promotion to Aman Sehrawat after his bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics 2024. The wrestler was promoted to the post of officer on special duty (OSD). The 21-year-old became the youngest to win an Olympic medal for India. He bagged the bronze medal in the 57kg freestyle category and his efforts helped India win their sixth medal at the Paris Olympics. The railways paid tribute to Aman for the glory he brought to the country.

"In a meeting held at the Northern Railway Headquarters, General Manager Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri presented a token of appreciation to the Olympian for winning the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. "On this occasion, Shri Sujit Kumar Mishra, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Northern Railway promoted Shri Aman Sehrawat for his Olympic medal win and appointed him as OSD/Sports," Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu S Upadhyay said in a press statement.

"Shri Aman Sehrawat, an Indian freestyle wrestler, brought immense pride and glory to the nation by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. His dedication, hard work, and perseverance have been an inspiration to millions," he said.

Swapnil Kusale, another Indian athlete who bagged an Olympic bronze medal, received a double promotion from being a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) for the Indian Railways to Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Kusale won a historic medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions event to bag India's 3rd one at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Aman Sehrawat carried forward the legacy of the Chhatrasal stadium as he secured India's first wrestling medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 21-year-old wrestler from the famed Chhatrasal Stadium, who lost both parents at the young age of 11, defeated Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 in the bronze play-off at Champ de Mars Arena. With his win over the Puerto Rican wrestler, Sehrawat became the youngest-ever individual Olympic medallist from India at 21 years 0 months and 24 days.

He went on to better PV Sindhu's record, who was 21 years 1 month and 14 days old when she won silver at the Rio Olympics 2016. Aman dedicated his bronze medal to his parents and the nation, a tribute to the dreams they had for him.
