Following his historic bronze medal win, India's Swapnil Kusale received a double promotion from being a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) for the Indian Railways to Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Sports Cell in Mumbai on August 2, Friday. Kusale won a historic medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions event to bag India's 3rd one at the Paris Olympics 2024. This was also the third medal for India in shooting.
Kusale has been working for Central Railways since 2015. The 28-year-old from Kambalwadi village near Kolhapur in Maharashtra has been competing in international events since 2012, but he had to wait another 12 years to make his Olympics debut at the Paris Games. It has now been cofirmed that the Indian shooter has got a double promotion, after the statement was issued on Thursday.
"The vacant Jr.Scale/Gr.B post of Mechanical Deptt. is transferred for operation as OSD(Sports)/ Sports Cell, HQ."
"In compliance to instructions contained in Railway Board's RBE No.39/2017 dated 25.04.201" and 2018/E(Sports)/4(3)/4/Policy dated 27.09.2019, approval has been accordea by the General Manager for grant of 1" Out of Turn promotion to Shri Swapnil Suresh Kusale, Jr.TE/PA Division (Group "C") (Sportsperson Shooting) in Group "B" Gazetted cadre on account of his outstanding achievement in the field of Sports (Shooting) in Paris Olympic, 2024 and posted as OSD(Sports) in Level-08 in Sports Cell, HQ office, CSMT against the vacant Scale / Group "B" post of Mechanical Deptt. transferred for operation as OSD(Sports)/CSMT, subject to passing the prescribed Medical Examination under Para 530(a) of IRMM-2000 and subject to Vigilance clearance," read the statement.
Speaking after his medal win, Kusale said that he admires Dhoni and does relate to his story as he is also a ticket collector like him.
"I don't follow anyone specific in the shooting world. Outside of that, I admire Dhoni for the person that he is. My sport requires me to be as calm and patient as he is on the field. I also relate to his story as I am a ticket collector like he was," said Kusale.
The assistant sports officer at Central Railway had said after Kusale's win that he would be getting a double promotion.
