Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, the father of the main accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, allegedly told his son to switch places with the driver after his BMW rammed a couple on a scooter.

In its submission before a court, the Mumbai Police said that after the accident, Rajesh Shah called his son Mihir many times and allegedly told him to switch places with driver Rajrishi Bidawat, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

The police told the court it was Rajesh Shah's plan to pin the blame on the driver to save his son.

On early morning of July 7, a speeding BMW rammed a couple on a scooter in the Worli area of Mumbai. Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, died in the incident while her husband Pradeep was injured.

The BMW was being driven allegedly by Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of Rajesh Shah, who is a leader of the Eknath Shinde camp of Shiv Sena.

Mihir Shah has been booked under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, 324(4) (committing mischief amounting to cause loss and damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita. He has also been charged under Sections 184, 134A, 134B, 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

While Mihir is absconding, the police arrested Rajesh Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat, the driver of the BMW was allegedly sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the incident.

However, on Monday, a Mumbai court granted bail to Rajesh Shah for a bond of Rs 15,000.
