Mihir Shah, the accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, had told the police during questioning that his career was over following the incident while confessing to the crime, sources said. He also consumed alcohol at two bars before the incident, they added.

On July 7, Mihir Shah rammed a two-wheeler in Worli, killing a 45-year-old woman who was riding pillion. He was arrested on Tuesday after being on the run for nearly three days.

According to the investigation conducted so far, Mihir Shah had consumed too much alcohol on the day of the BMW crash. He drank alcohol at a bar in Juhu where he partied with his friends before the incident, according to sources.

He drank again at another bar located between Borivali and Malad. He then told the BMW driver Rajrishi Bidawat that he would drive the luxury car, they said.

Mihir Shah, who is the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah, was enjoying a joyride on Marine Drive on Sunday, the day the incident occurred.

Last night, both Mihir Shah and the BMW driver were taken to Worli by the police and the crime scene was recreated.

Police said they did not fully trust the statements of both accused and that they were being verified, sources said.

The luxury car driven by Mihir Shah rammed a two-wheeler from behind in Worli, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.

After crashing into the couple's scooter in the early hours of Sunday, Mihir Shah was very much aware that the woman was stuck in one of the tyres of the luxury car, but still he drove recklessly and did not stop though motorists passing by frantically signalled and shouted, asking him to halt, an official said on Wednesday.

The horrific accident was captured on CCTV cameras of the police installed at Mela Junction and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli.

After crossing the Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk, other motorists asked Mihir Shah to stop the car, but he did not listen to them and continued driving, according to the official.

The police will bring Bidawat and Mihir Shah face to face to get more information about the crash and to know the entire sequence of events, the official said.

To conceal his identity, Mihir Shah shaved his beard and trimmed his hair, the official said, adding they were trying to find out if anyone helped him in changing his appearance.

The 24-year-old accused, who is in police custody till July 16, has claimed he possesses a driving licence, but the document was yet to be recovered, he said.

Mihir Shah's father Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena politician from adjoining Palghar district, is also an accused in the case and currently out on bail.
