Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, was arrested on Tuesday. He was absconding since July 7 after he allegedly rammed his BMW into a scooter, killing a woman.

Mihir, 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader from the Eknath Shinde camp. Rajesh Shah was arrested by the Worli police but was released on bail on Monday.

On the morning of July 7, a BMW hit a couple on a scooter on Annie Besant Road in Worli. A woman, Kaveri Nakhwa, died in the incident while her husband Pradip suffered injuries.

The BMW was being driven allegedly by Mihir Shah, with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat sitting on the passenger seat next to him. The car was later found abandoned in Kala Nagar in Bandra East.

Mihir Shah was charged under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, 324(4) (committing mischief amounting to cause loss and damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita. He has also been charged under Sections 184, 134A, 134B, 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

According to the police, Rajesh Shah called his son Mihir after the incident and allegedly told his son to switch places with the driver. The police said it was Rajesh Shah's plan to pin the blame on the driver to save his son.
