Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati appealed to workers to maintain peace and also demanded that the Tamil Nadu government take strict action against the culprits. Mayawati declared it an extremely sad and worrying incident. She also planned to visit Armstrong’s family members and pay tribute to Armstrong in Chennai on Sunday.
Mayawati tweeted that Armstrong was a very dedicated leader of the BSP in Tamil Nadu and that his murder is a brutal case. She urged the government to take immediate and necessary action to prevent such incidents in the future.
Sources reported that Armstrong was interacting with his supporters near his house in Perambur when six men riding bikes attacked him with machetes and sickles. The assailants were disguised as food delivery agents.
Following the attack, Armstrong was rushed to a private hospital in the city and was declared dead. Mayawati expressed gratitude, stating that Armstrong had previously served as a Chennai Corporation councillor and was a “strong voice” of the Dalit community.
After this incident, BSP supporters protested across Tamil Nadu demanding a CBI probe into the murder.
The police arrested the suspects involved in the murder that night. The government conveyed its deepest condolences to Armstrong’s family and party and stated that it had ordered officers to expedite the case and bring the culprits to justice according to the law.
