A month after the results of the Lok Sabha election were declared, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday urged people to “refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty” for ex-Union Minister Smriti Irani and other leaders.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter.”

“Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength," the Raebareli MP added.

In the Lok Sabha poll results declared on June 4, Smriti Irani, who unseated Rahul Gandhi from the Congress bastion in the 2019 elections, lost the Amethi constituency to the Congress loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma by a huge margin of over 1.65 lakh votes.

Addressing the media after the poll defeat, Irani stated, "I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity... Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi.”
