Reports from railway sources indicate that eight bogies of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed, resulting in a tragic toll in which at least four lives were lost and 20 passengers were injured.
Both locomotive pilots on board the train escaped unharmed. Tribhuvan, one of the locomotive pilots, reported hearing an explosion just before the train derailed. The railway authorities are now investigating the possibility of sabotage as a potential cause of the derailment.
In response to the accident, the Ministry of Railways has swiftly announced financial aid packages: Rs 10 lakhs will be provided to the families of each deceased person: Rs 2.5 lakhs for those who sustained severe injuries and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.
A thorough and high-level inquiry has been initiated by the Railways to ascertain the exact circumstances and causes leading to the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express.
