A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in the Nagoan district of Assam. The incident took place when the girl was returning home from her tuition on Thursday evening.
The minor was found in an unconscious state by the roadside and rescued by locals, who then informed the police. She has been admitted to Dhing medical unit in Nagoan district of the state for treatment.
Massive protests were witnessed after the incident with Student Union calling a Bandh in the area today.
Two people have been detained for interrogation and a search is underway for others, a police officer said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a "crime against humanity”. Taking to X, the Chief Minister expressed his outrage over the incident and vowed to bring the accused to justice.
"The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE," Sharma wrote.
He also added that he has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, to visit the site of the crime and ensure swift and decisive action against those responsible. "I've directed DGP Assam Police to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters," he added.
