AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi's controversial slogans after taking oath as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha on Tuesday has been expunged from Parliament records.

As the treasury benches created an uproar, Radha Mohan Singh, who was in the Chair at the time, assured the members that anything apart from the oath would not go on record.

Pro tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab said all slogans used by the newly elected MPs during the oath-taking ceremony would not be taken on record and stand expunged.

Owaisi, who was sworn in as a member of the Lok Sabha for the fifth time, later said in a post on X that he would continue to raise issues of India's marginalised with sincerity.

As Asaduddin Owaisi went to take oath, BJP MPs started chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan. Unfazed by the chants, Owaisi took his oath in Urdu and ended it by chanting the controversial slogan.

Owaisi defeated BJP candidate Madhavi Latha by 3.3 lakh votes from the Hyderabad constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

As a controversy erupted over his slogan, Owaisi said there was no provision in the Constitution that barred him from saying it.

"How is it wrong? Tell me the provisions of the Constitution? You should also listen to what others said. I said what I had to," Owaisi said outside Parliament.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said the slogan given by Owaisi was "absolutely wrong" and against the Constitution.

"On one hand, he is taking an oath in the name of the Constitution and, on the other, giving a slogan against the Constitution. The real face of Owaisi is out. Every day, they raise issues against the country and the Constitution," Reddy said.
