Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday attacked Rahul Gandhi over former Pakistan minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain's praise for him in an X post. Speaking at a rally, Irani also said Amethi now has a factory of AK 203 rifles, which are being used to neutralise Pakistani terrorists on the border.
The Union Minister also said Chaudhry should be worrying about Pakistan and not Amethi.
"Till now I was fighting a Congress leader, but now a Pakistani leader has said that Smriti Irani should be defeated," the Union Minister said at the rally.
"You are unable to handle Pakistan, but are worrying about Amethi," she said, referring to Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.
"If my voice reaches the leader of Pakistan, I want to say, this is the Amethi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set up a factory of the AK 203 rifles, which are being used to kill Pakistani terrorists on the border," she said.
Irani also said Rahul Gandhi has yet not condemned the former Pakistani minister's social media post, and questioned his relationship with Pakistan.
"I want to ask you Rahul Gandhi Ji, what is your relationship with Pakistan?" Irani said.
Further taking a jibe at the Congress leader, she said, 'chunaav chal raha hai desh me, samarthan mil raha hai aapko videsh me', which roughly means "Elections are happening in the country, but you are garnering support from foreign soil."
On May 1, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain shared a video featuring Rahul Gandhi, showing him targetting the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the video, Gandhi could also be heard attacking the BJP government over the invitees at Ram Mandir's Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
On May 4, the former Pakistani minister again praised Rahul Gandhi in an X post, this time, over his party's promise of conducting a wealth redistribution survey, if it was voted to power.
He compared Rahul Gandhi with his great-grandfather and India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and said "both were socialists".
While Smriti Irani is seeking re-election from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi is fighting from Raebareli.
Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, has been fielded from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, the party said in a statement on May 3.
