Three people who were held hostage at a club in the eastern Dutch town of Ede on Saturday by a man have been released, said police but added that the "situation is not over yet". The man armed with weapons and explosives had taken several people hostage at the club in Ede, reported Reuters news agency, citing a local newspaper.

The Dutch Police did not clarify whether more hostages remain in the club.

Police said 150 homes have been evacuated in the area and special units had been deployed to the scene.

People have been asked to stay away from the area. Police in a statement said there is no indication that the hostage situation has a terrorist angle, according to Reuters.

The 'Petticoat nightclub' is located in the centre of the town, reported the news agency.

It added that a remote-controlled robot, anti-explosives units and police are at the scene.

Trains to and from Ede have been cancelled. Further, the municipality said all shops in the center of Ede would remain closed, reported news agency Associated Press.
