KANPUR: Two infants suffered up to 40 per cent burns after four, including two gangrape accused set the survivor's house on fire in a village in Maurawan police area of Unnao district late Monday evening. Acting on the complaint, police arrested one of the accused.
The survivor's mother has accused the men who raped her minor daughter recently, besides her father-in-law and brother-in-law, of setting their house on fire.
Purwa circle officer Santosh Kumar said the survivor's house was torched late Monday evening, allegedly by the woman's father-in-law and brother-in-law, besides the two who had gangraped her daughter.
"FIR has been lodged on the complaint of the woman under the relevant IPC sections. One of the accused, Raj Bahadur, who is her brother-in-law, has been arrested. Efforts were on to arrest the other accused," he said, adding, "Two infants, including the four-month-old son of the survivor and a three-month old daughter of her sister, sustained burns and are under treatment at the hospital," CO added.
According to police, a minor girl was gang-raped in a village under Maurawan and gave birth to a child four months ago. In this case, police had registered a case and sent three village youths to jail.
The family alleged that the two accused, who were out on bail, were mounting pressure on them to withdraw the complaint and when they refused, late Monday evening, they set the house on fire.
According to the doctors of the hospital, both the children have suffered 35 to 40 per cent burns.
An FIR under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) has been filed against seven persons, including the two main accused, following the incident.
