The family of the Kolkata trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month, has accused the police of suppressing evidence in connection with the case. The doctor's father and aunt joined the ongoing protests in the Jadavpur area and made fresh claims against the police.

Addressing a gathering of protesters, the trainee doctor's aunt said, "The police and administration are trying to cover up the incident. Why are they always ever ready to suppress evidence? Her parents waited for three to four hours to see the body. They were not allowed to enter that room (seminar hall)."

"Hundreds of people went and came out of the room. But they were not given permission to go inside. It has been one month since the heinous incident. Why was everything done in a hurry? If the police and administration are doing such things, then whom will we approach?" she questioned.

The aunt said she would always support the protesting junior doctors and urged them and others to continue their protests till justice was ensured for the trainee doctor.

On the other hand, the father of the victim said her daughter's death shattered the family.

"That incident finished everything. Within one day, our lives and dreams were shattered," said the father, who was consoled by some people on the stage.

Holding back his tears, the father of the trainee doctor expressed hope he would continue to receive support from the junior doctors who are demanding justice for his daughter.

"Please stand with me till a solution is reached. Our hearts are with the doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Your voices have strengthened me from the inside. I was heartbroken after this incident," he said amid 'We want justice' chants from the crowd.

The trainee doctor's semi-naked body was found in the hospital's seminar hall on August 9, sparking protests in Kolkata and across the country. An autopsy later confirmed that she was raped and murdered.

The next day, Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested in the case. He is currently in judicial custody. The CBI took over the case from the Kolkata Police last month.

Earlier, during an interview with Aaj Tak Bangla, the trainee doctor's parents questioned why they were not allowed to see their daughter's body at the hospital.

"They were hiding something and didn't show the body of our child. Why did they take four hours to show the face of our daughter? What were they hiding? They were in a hurry to dispose of her body," the victim's mother said.
