Parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) continued to witness heavy to moderate rain on Friday, leading to water logging in several parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert, indicating a "be prepared" mode, as extremely bad weather is forecast.
The alert warns of potential disruptions to transport, including rail, road and air, with power outages also likely, according to the weather department.
"Heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Thunderstorms/Lightning at isolated places throughout northwest India except Haryana," the weather department said.
The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is expected to hover at 28 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, according to the weather department.
A depression located near Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur, around 40 kilometres west-southwest of the city and 70 kilometres west-northwest of Hardoi is expected to continue moving towards the north-northeast direction over the next 24 hours, which will bring respite from continuous rain in Delhi-NCR, the IMD said.
"Depression over central Uttar Pradesh moved slowly lay centred at 2330 hrs IST of 12 Sep over the same region about 40 km west-southwest of Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh), 70 km west-northwest of Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh). Likely to continue to move northeastwards and weaken gradually into a well marked low pressure area during next 12 hours," the weather department said.
Besides the national capital, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness rain over the next two to three days.
Uttarakhand is likely to experience heavy to moderate rainfall from September 13 to 14, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
Haryana is forecasted to experience light to moderate rain, with periods of heavy rainfall between September 13 and 15. East and west Uttar Pradesh are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during this period.
