A man in Bengaluru was detained by the police for allegedly killing his wife, the police said on Wednesday. The woman was found dead in her flat with her friend, who was with her the night before, saying that she had been strangled.

According to the police complaint, Navyashree, a 25-year-old dance instructor, had been living with her husband, Kiran, in SMV Layout, Kengeri Upanagara. They had been married for three years.

Aishwarya, Navyashree's friend who filed the police complaint, said that on the morning of August 27, she received a message from Navyashree.

When Aishwarya reached Navyashree's home at around 4.30 pm, the latter told her that she was experiencing distress both at home and outside.

Navyashree called another friend, Anil, expressing fear for her safety and requesting to meet him. The three met later that evening, where Anil suggested that Navyashree file a complaint against her husband, hoping that police intervention might help resolve the marital issues.

After dropping Anil off, Navyashree and Aishwarya returned to the former's home at around 11.30 pm and went to bed. Aishwarya, who had consumed alcohol, woke up the next morning and found Navyashree dead. She immediately alerted the neighbours and contacted the police control room.

The police suspect that Navyashree's husband, Kiran, who reportedly had suspicions about his wife, may have used a spare key to enter the house and commit the murder. Sources said the woman was tied to a chair, tortured, and then killed.

Based on Aishwarya's complaint, Kiran has been detained by the police.
