Delhi, Noida wake up to heavy rain, more showers likely today

Residents in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to moderate to heavy rain on Saturday morning, with thick clouds and downpour reducing visibility in certain areas.

Several areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received moderate to heavy rain on Saturday morning, leading to waterlogging in some locations. A thick blanket of clouds covered the city and adjoining areas, reducing visibility in certain pockets.

Areas such as Janpath, ITO, Minto Road, Ashram, Anand Vihar, and Mayur Vihar in Delhi and several locations in Noida and Faridabad experienced the fresh spell of rain early in the morning.

Waterlogging was reported from areas including Barapullah flyover.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of heavy rain with a cloudy sky to continue in the city.

In the coming hours, "light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to occur in North Delhi, North-East Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and regions in the NCR including Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh," the Regional Meteorological Centre said on Saturday morning.

Neighbouring areas like Gannaur, Sonipat, Sohna, Palwal, and Nuh in Haryana, and Baraut, Bagpat, Khekra, Sikandrabad, and Khurja in Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive rain.

The weather department on Friday predicted that "fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Delhi along with Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh on July 13".
