A fortnight after the 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case surrendered before the Godhra sub-jail in Gujarat's Panchmahal district, one of the convicts walked out on parole on Friday.

Pradip Ramanlal Modhia walked out of the jail on five-day parole, granted to him by the Gujarat High Court. He later reached his village.

Modhia had approached the court following the death of his father-in-law on February 7.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had dismissed the convicts' applications seeking an extension of time to surrender before jail authorities.

The convicts were granted remission by the Gujarat government in the gang-rape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of her family members during the 2002 Godhra riots.
