2 dead, 70 injured during Jallikattu bull taming festival in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga

At least two people were killed and 70 others were injured in the Jallikattu, a bull-embracing sport, in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district. In Alanganallur Jallikattu three people have been injured.

A minor among two people was killed, and 70 others were injured during a Jallikattu, bull-embracing sport, in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district on Wednesday. Ravi, 11, from Valaiyampatti and a 35-year-old man died during the event.

271 bulls and 81 bull tamers participated in the event held on Wednesday in the presence of District Collector Asha Ajit, Constituency MP Karti P Chidambaram and DMK Minister Periyakaruppan.

3 INJURED IN ALANGANALLUR JALLIKATTU

Winners of the event, both the bull tamer and the bull, are set to receive a Nissan Magnite car, while each participating bull will be awarded a gold coin.

To ensure safety, a medical team consisting of 90 staff members, a veterinary team comprising 70 staff members, and Red Cross volunteers are present at the venue, along with ambulances.

Besides, 1,500 police personnel have been deployed to control the crowd flocking to the Jallikattu arena in Alanganallur.

"It will be the finest facility that is being built at a cost of Rs 44 crore. Around 5,000 people will be able to watch Jallikattu," Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin told India Today TV.
