The United States President Joe Biden reached the G20 venue, Bharat Mandapam and was warmly received by prime minister Narendra Modi.
According to the US principal Deputy national security advisor Jon Finer, India, the US, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Europe are set to launch an unprecedented and groundbreaking infrastructure initiative of a railway and shipping corridor to enhance commerce, digital connectivity, and energy, said a Hindustan Times report.

Shanti Devi, a National Award-winning Madhubani painting artisan, showcased ‘Chandrayaan-3’ Madhubani painting in the G 20 art and craft exhibition pavilion at the Bharat Mandapam.

Amid deep divisions over the Ukraine war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged world leaders to turn the global trust deficit into confidence in each other and find new solutions to age-old challenges.
In his opening remarks at the G20 Leaders’ Summit, Modi exuded confidence and said if the world could defeat Covid, it could also triumph over the trust deficit caused by the war.
“It is time for all of us to walk together for global good,” Modi said while addressing the ‘One Earth’ session of the G20 Leaders Summit attended by US President Joe Biden, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva among others.
Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived here on a three-day state visit during which he will hold a bilateral meeting and co-chair the first leaders’ meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During this visit, the Crown Prince will continue his stay in India on Monday for the state visit, a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
He will call on {resident Murmu on September 11 and will also hold a bilateral meeting with Modi and the two leaders will co-chair the First Leaders’ Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, the MEA said.
They will review the progress made under the two Ministerial Committees of the Strategic Partnership Council i.e. the Committee on Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation and the Committee on Economy and Investments Cooperation.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will skip the G20 dinner being hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on the opening day of the G20 Summit, however the chief minister’s office (CMO) did not cite any reason for the same.

Tibetan activists staged a protest in McLeodganj (Himachal Pradesh) on Saturday appealing to the G20 leaders gathered in Delhi to discuss China’s alleged attempts at erasing Tibetan culture.
The student protesters alleged that the Chinese government was continuously assaulting their education system and trying to erase Tibetan culture and identity.
The protesters urged the world leaders to take a firm action against these actions.

Addressing the first session of the G20 summit, PM Modi on Saturday said that consensus has been built on the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit Declaration.
“I announce to adopt this declaration. On this occasion, I congratulate my Sherpa, ministers, who worked hard for it and made it possible…” he said.
PM Modi on Saturday said that India’s G20 Presidency has been the most ambitious and action-oriented in history of the grouping.
Amid the ongoing G20 summit, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar addressed a presser and said that India aims to make this summit as inclusive and broad-based as possible.
“The G20 has contributed to making India world-ready and the world India-ready,” Jaishankar said.

It seeks to accelerate progress on SDGs and has come up with an action plan accordingly. It envisages a green development pact for a sustainable future, it endorses high-level principles on lifestyle for sustainable development, voluntary principles of hydrogen, the Chennai principles for a sustainable resilient blue economy and the Deccan principles on food security and nutrition among others…”, he added.
“Concerning the war in Ukraine, while recalling the discussion in Bali, we reiterated our national positions and resolutions adopted at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly (A/RES/ES-11/1 and A/RES/ES-11/6) and underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety. In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible.”
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has also been integrated into the G20 Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP) which will run between 2024 and 2026.
“That is a strong legacy of the Indian presidency….,” Sitharaman highlighted.

The G20 has adopted a consensus declaration on issues facing the bloc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday, the first day of the two-day summit, in New Delhi. “On the back of the hard work of all the teams, we have received consensus on the G20 Leaders Summit Declaration. I announce the adoption of this declaration,” Modi told the G20 leaders in the national capital.
On climate change, the leaders’ declaration called on the G20 member states “to set an ambitious, transparent and trackable New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) of climate finance in 2024, from a floor of $100 billion a year, taking into account the needs and priorities of developing countries in fulfilling the objective of the UNFCCC and implementation of the Paris Agreement.”
G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on Saturday said that the biggest achievement of the New Delhi development is “women-led development, with a massive focus on women empowerment and gender equality., ”
“There’s a huge focus on gender-inclusive climate action. There’s a completely big focus on women’s food security, nutrition and well-being. And we’ve created a new working group on empowerment of women, which Brazil will carry forward,” he said.

Announcing another big decision on Day 1 of the G20 summit, the India-Middle East-Europe connectivity corridor has been launched.
This is a historic and first of its kind initiative on cooperation on connectivity and infrastructure involving India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, EU, France, Italy, Germany and USA.
US President Joe Biden spoke on the economic corridor, saying “this is really big.”
“This is a real big deal. I want to thank PM. One Earth, One Family, One Future that’s the focus of this G 20 Summit. And in many ways, it’s also the focus of this partnership that we’re talking about today. Building sustainable, resilient infrastructure, making quality infrastructure investments and creating a better future…” Biden said.
US President Joe Biden said that last year, the countries came together as one to commit to the vision of a common economic corridor, and now “we will work to make this a reality.”
“Economic corridor. You’re going to hear that phrase more than once, I expect, over the next decade. As we work to address infrastructure gaps across low-middle-income countries, we need to maximize the impact of our investments. That’s why a few months ago announced that the United States will work with our partners to invest in economic corridors,” he added.

Speaking on the newly-launched Economic Corridor, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Muhammed Bin Salman said that his country was looking forward to the integration of the initiative.
” I would like to thank those who worked with us to reach this founding step to establish this important economic corridor…” he said.
French President Emmanuel Macron thanked PM Modi for the “very important” project from Asia through Middle East to Europe and the big opportunities and people connect that it will provide.
“And this is a very important project from Asia through Middle East to Europe to offer big opportunities and connect people. But our intention is as well to make it real and to be sure that after this commitment we have concrete results and especially to have the first global green trade road meaning having net zero transport infrastructure,” he said.

PM Modi met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Delhi today.
“During the meeting, the leaders acknowledged the constructive dialogue of the two countries throughout the year on their priorities for their respective G-20 and G-7 Presidencies, particularly in bringing the concerns and aspirations of the Global South to the fore, ” a statement by the MEA said.
“India, USA, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy and the European Union Commission have signed the Memorandum of Understanding to establish the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEE EC).
