Patna(Bihar): On the occasion of 78th Independence Day, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) under Urban Development and Housing Department (Bihar) crafted their Independence Day ‘jhaanki’ on the concept of "Zero Waste Event" at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on 15th August, 2024.

However, irony engulfs their attempt.

Here’s a sneak-peak into their behind the scenes making of tableau a night before, during the preparations of their so-called “zero waste event”:

In the video by Jaano Junction, it is evident that in the process of making the tableau (jhaanki), enormous amount of waste is generated, mostly single-use ‘thermocol’, which has been banned by the government. The ban was implemented in the city by Patna Municipal Corporation itself and actions were taken by the team to “successfully“ impose the ban.

Ironically, as part of the government’s decision to ban single-use plastic items and polystyrene (thermocol) across the country from July 1 (2022), the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has constituted teams in all its circles to curb the use of such products under its jurisdiction. Citizens failing to comply by the order and found using thermocol were fined anything between Rs100 up to Rs1 lakh.
