From 20th July 2023, the streaming OTT giant Netflix has decided to stop the sharing of password from one household to the other.
How is this process going to take place ?
Netflix on Thursday said that, starting from today, it will start sending e-mails to those people who are sharing their account password outside their households. It is being done because many people are watching the content on the platform without paying the subscription of it.
What has Netflix said on this?
In a statement given by Netflix it has said that “A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.
We recognise that our members have many entertainment choices. It is why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows — so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you are watching with, there is always something satisfying to watch on Netflix”.
This statement by Netflix is a clear-cut instruction that a Netflix account is not meant to be used outside a particular household.
In which countries does Netflix is going to take an action?
Netflix is going to take the action in India, Croatia, Indonesia and Kenya where the process of sending this mail is going to be followed and this will be done by Netflix in order to increase it’s revenue.
What are the other Options given by Netflix?
After noticing that, in some parts of India and in the other countries where the sharing wasn’t being done, for those places Netflix is going to introduce a paid-sharing option where users will have the option to pay an additional fee if they want to continue sharing their Netflix account with people they don’t live with.
What extra does Netflix has done to increase it’s revenue
For an Increase in the revenue, Netflix has now removed their ad-free plan in the U.S., which has laid to the increase in the price of the monthly subscription from $9.99 to $15.49 per month.
