Renowned musician AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have announced their separation after three decades of marriage. The news has left fans stunned, sparking speculation about the reasons behind their decision. While Rahman and Banu have maintained privacy about their separation, their lawyer, Vandana Shah, emphasized that the split was amicable and dignified.

Speaking to ETimes, Vandana shared, “Every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and I am extremely happy that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support each other and wish each other well." She refrained from disclosing further details, clarifying that the decision was mutual and not taken lightly.

In a separate context, Vandana Shah appeared on The Chill Hour podcast, where she spoke about challenges in Bollywood marriages in general, not specifically addressing Rahman and Banu’s relationship. Discussing the dynamics of such unions, she attributed factors like boredom, heightened expectations in relationships, and external influences as common reasons for marital breakdowns among Bollywood celebrities and affluent families.

Shah explained, “Bollywood lives are very different. I don’t think infidelity is the primary cause of most marital breakdowns. Boredom in marriage, different expectations from sex life, and external interference from family or others often play significant roles.”

As for Rahman and Saira Banu, their focus remains on protecting their children’s privacy during this difficult time. The couple, who share three children – daughters Khatija and Rahima, and son Ameen – confirmed their separation via a joint statement issued by their lawyer. The statement underlined the amicable nature of their decision, with no current discussions on financial aspects.

This announcement serves as a reminder that even long-standing relationships face challenges, and handling such transitions with respect and dignity can set an example for others.
