Academic pressure, high competition and fear of failure are creating struggles for students preparing for competitive exams.

Every year different exam agencies (NTA, UPSC) conduct different competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CAT, UPSC-CSE etc. Every year thousands of aspirants dedicate themselves to months and years of rigorous preparation in the hope of securing a rank in the exam. While these exams present amazing opportunities for aspirants, the journey to success in these exams brings significant challenges.

Reasons Behind High Pressure On Students

Pressure of High Expectations

One of the major challenges which students face is the immense pressure of high expectations of society, family and even themselves. Since clearing competitive exams successfully is a ticket to success and a bright future according to many people. This societal pressure can lead to huge stress, with the students feeling the weight of their families hope and expectation, because there is always the fear of disappointing loved ones by not being successful, which leads to anxiety and depression in students.

Financial Constraints

Cost which is associated with preparing any competitive exam like coaching classes, study material, exam fees can restrict students and create financial burden on them, specially those who are from modest backgrounds.

Uncertainty and Fear of Failure

The result of the competitive exam is very uncertain which increases the fear of failure among aspirants, because success rate is very low in these competitive exams and no. of students registering for exam are high which leads to intense pressure and stress for students. The uncertainty associated with these exams makes the journey extremely challenging for aspirants.

Social Isolation

In order to get success in these competitive exams, aspirants need to do intense preparation for exams which leads to social isolation. Students usually withdraw themselves from social activities, social gatherings, spending less time with family and friends, which is required for these exams, which leads to a sense of isolation and loneliness.

Lack of Structured Approach

These exams contain a very elaborated syllabus which needs to be decoded and can be overwhelming for students. For which students usually don’t have proper guidance and structure to move forward in the path of preparation which leads to confusion and pressure making it difficult for students to chart a clear path to success.

The journey of preparing for competitive exams is undoubtedly one of the most exhausting journeys. The high expectations, high competition, financial constraints etc are significant hurdles that students face. However, with resilience and constant support of family members and friends many aspirants successfully overcome these challenges and achieve their goals.
