'Wrestlers in Congress lap': Brij Bhushan on protest over new wrestling body chief

JJ News Desk

As wrestlers continued to oppose the election of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan's close aide Sanjay Singh as Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan, on Saturday, said the protesting wrestlers were sitting on Congress' lap and no one was going to support them.

The former WFI chief said, "Other wrestlers aren't supporting the protesting ones as they are sitting on Congress' lap." "Now, to fight them, should I hang myself?" he asked.

“The development of wrestling has been affected for over 11 months. Fair elections were held and Sanjay Singh alias Bablu from our camp was elected with a clear majority. The other candidate lost by 33 votes,” he said, adding that his camp aimed to work towards the betterment of the sport.

“Tell me, if top wrestlers are still protesting and Sakshee Malikkh has bid farewell to the sport, what can I do to help?” he further asked.

“They have been hurling abuses at us for months. Who has give them the right to do so?” he questioned.

WHY THE PROTEST AGAINST BRIJ BHUSHAN?

They called off their protest after over five months in June after a chargesheet was filed against Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan. The complaints against the WFI chief mentioned his attempts at inappropriate touching, putting his hand over the chest of girls, moving his hand from the chest to the back, and chasing them, among others.
