The Austrian Grand Prix final results have been updated by the FIA due to retrospective penalties imposed for exceeding track limits. Notable drivers, such as Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton, have been demoted in the revised standings. Conversely, Lando Norris has moved up to fourth place, while Fernando Alonso and George Russell have also seen improvements in their positions.

The revised classification was issued following the FIA's decision to penalize eight drivers following the conclusion of the race at the Red Bull Ring. Max Verstappen secured a dominant victory, with Charles Leclerc from Ferrari and Sergio Perez from Red Bull finishing in second and third places, respectively.

After the 71-lap race in Austria, Aston Martin lodged a protest regarding the initial classification, as several drivers had already received penalties for exceeding track limits.

The stewards noted at the time that they had been made aware of deleted laps due to exceeding track limits, which came to their attention after the protest was lodged. Consequently, they requested Race Control to reconcile the deleted laps with applied penalties.

Later on, the stewards upheld Aston Martin's protest and announced that additional penalties for track limit violations would be incorporated into the final classification.

These penalties have now been implemented by the FIA, affecting Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon, Logan Sargeant, Nyck de Vries, and Yuki Tsunoda.

As a result, the updated results show Sainz falling from P4 to P6, with Lando Norris rising to P4 and Fernando Alonso to P5. Hamilton drops from P7 to P8, while his teammate George Russell moves up to P7.

Furthermore, Gasly slips to P10, allowing Lance Stroll to move up to P9, and Ocon drops from P12 to P14. Albon and Sargeant maintain their respective P11 and P13 positions.

In terms of AlphaTauri, De Vries moves down from P15 to P17, and Tsunoda falls from P18 to P19.

The stewards have applied retrospective penalties as follows: a five-second time penalty for four infringements, and a 10-second time penalty for five infringements.

Additionally, due to the excessive number of infringements, a "reset" has been allowed, resetting the count of infringements. After another four infringements, a five-second time penalty will be imposed, and after five, a 10-second time penalty will be applied.

The stewards strongly recommend finding a solution to the issue of track limits at the Spielberg circuit.

The penalties imposed after the race in full are as follows:

  • Carlos Sainz – 10-second time penalty

  • Lewis Hamilton – 10-second time penalty

  • Pierre Gasly – 10-second time penalty

  • Alex Albon – 10-second time penalty

  • Esteban Ocon – 5-second time penalty

  • Esteban Ocon – 10-second time penalty

  • Logan Sargeant – 10-second time penalty

  • Nyck de Vries – 10-second time penalty

  • Nyck de Vries – 5-second time penalty (15 seconds in total for De Vries)
