In a significant demonstration of its advancing space capabilities, China successfully launched eight satellites into orbit from a sea-based platform.

The launch took place from the Haiyang sea launch platform off the coast of Shandong province.

The mission utilised the Jielong-3 (Smart Dragon-3) rocket, marking its second successful launch since its debut. This solid-fueled rocket, developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), is designed specifically for commercial satellite deployments and sea-based launches.

The diverse payload included several notable satellites namely Tianyi 41, XSD-15, XSD-21, and XSD-22, Yuxing-2-05, and Fudan-1.

These satellites are expected to serve various purposes, including Earth observation, communications, and scientific research.

This mission points to China's growing expertise in sea-based launches, a technique that offers greater flexibility in launch locations and potentially reduces costs.

The Haiyang platform, a modified vessel, serves as a mobile launch pad, allowing China to conduct launches from optimal positions in international waters.

The successful launch of Jielong-3 from a sea platform represents a significant milestone in China's commercial space sector. It demonstrates the country's ability to offer diverse launch options to both domestic and international customers, potentially increasing its competitiveness in the global space market.
