Meta has launched its advanced AI assistant, Meta AI, in India. People who use its Instagram, FaceBook and WhatsApp services will be able to use Meta AI in these apps. The company claims that its Meta AI can help users with everyday tasks, learning, and creative work. Initially launched at last year’s Meta Connect and powered by the latest Llama 3 technology, Meta AI has been expanding globally since April and is now accessible to users in India.

On WhatsApp, Meta AI can be summoned in group chats to assist with planning and suggestions. Whether you need restaurant recommendations for a night out or itinerary ideas for a road trip, the company says users can ask Meta AI within their WhatsApp conversation. To directly access Meta AI, one can look for a blue-purple circle icon at the top of the app once the update is available to your device.

On Instagram, users can interact with Meta AI in Direct Messages by typing "@" followed by their query. Meta AI can provide information, help plan events, or generate ideas in your chat. Whether this AI feature will prove to be useful or not in apps like Instagram, only time will tell because people are more likely to use it on WhatsApp than on this social media app.

On Facebook, Meta AI provides additional context and information about posts you see in your feed, according to the company. For instance, if you come across a post about the northern lights, you can ask Meta AI about the best time to see them. In Messenger, Meta AI can assist in chats similar to its functionality on WhatsApp, providing recommendations, planning help, or just adding an interactive element to conversations.

Interestingly, Meta AI also has a standout feature called "Imagine," which allows users to create and share AI-generated images directly from their chats. By using the word "imagine" in your interaction with Meta AI, you can do a few things. These include crafting personalised invites for events like birthday parties and developing mood boards for home decor inspiration. One can also animate or modify existing images by providing new prompts, the company said.

While Meta AI is gradually being rolled out across India, users who haven’t yet received the update should see it in the coming days. To ensure you get access as soon as possible, keep your Meta apps updated to the latest version. Look for the blue-purple icon in WhatsApp or use "@" in Instagram DMs to check if you have received the update or not if your apps are up-to-date.
