YS Sharmila appointed Andhra Congress Chief after G Rudra Raju quits post

JJ News Desk

YS Sharmila, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's sister, was appointed as Congress President of the state unit on Tuesday. Sharmila joined Congress on January 4 as she announced the merger of her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with Congress.

This move by the Congress came a day after Gidugu Rudra Raju resigned from the Andhra Pradesh's President post. Congress in a statement, announced the appointment of outgoing PCC President of Andhra Pradesh, Rudra Raju, as the special invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Sharmila, ahead of the Assembly polls in Telangana, had opted out of the polls to prevent a split of votes that could have benefited former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Sharmila announced YSRTP's support for Congress in the November 30 Telangana Assembly polls, ahead of the election.
