Supreme Court may pass order on Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail on Friday

The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that it may pass interim orders on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the Delhi liquor policy case on Friday.

Justice Sanjeev Khanna told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju to be ready with his submissions on Friday and said that the bench may pass interim orders if needed.

The bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had said that it didn't want Arvind Kejriwal to discharge his official duties if he is released on interim bail, as it would lead to a conflict of interest.

The AAP chief failed to get any relief from the top court on Tuesday, with the bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta rising without pronouncing an order granting him interim bail to enable him to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections.

The bench had said that it didn't want Arvind Kejriwal to discharge his official duties if he is released on interim bail, as it would lead to a conflict of interest.

"Suppose we grant you interim bail on account of elections. Then if you say you will attend office, it may have a cascading effect. If we give you interim bail, we don't want you to perform official duties as somewhere it will lead to conflict of interest. We don't want your interference at all in the working of the government," the bench had said.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
