The UK's Prince Harry returned to London for a brief visit to participate in the 10th edition of the annual Invictus Games. However, royal watchers have suggested that the Duke of Sussex's return visit, sans his wife Meghan Markle, would not lead to any reconciliation efforts between his elder brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, a media report said.
"Harry would love to reconnect with Kate. They were once extremely close, and Harry was hit hard by the news of her cancer diagnosis, which he learnt about just the way the rest of us did, via Kate's shocking video," Christopher Andersen, author of "The King: The Life of Charles III", told Fox News.
"Unfortunately, it doesn't appear William is willing to let his brother anywhere near his ailing wife."
The author further said that there was "just too much drama between the brothers and their wives, and there is lingering bitterness on everyone's part".
"So, the chances of even a meeting between Harry and the rest of the royal family, much less some sort of reconciliation, seem extremely slim."
After months of rumours and bizarre conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton's whereabouts since her disappearance from the spotlight after Christmas in December 2023, Kensington Palace released a video message in March in which the Princess of Wales said that she is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and is "well and getting stronger every day".
She said that the cancer was not known when she had the abdominal surgery in January.
Shortly after the video was released, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle wished Kate Middleton "health and healing".
"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," Harry and Meghan said in a statement shared with People Magazine.
The downfall in the relationship of Prince Harry and his wife with the British royal family happened after the couple stepped back from duties in 2020.
Harry's ties with William were also fractured, especially after the Duke of Sussex revealed in his memoir and in an interview about a physical fight between the siblings.
Harry and Meghan were last seen with Kate and William for a surprise walkabout in Windsor following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
In February this year, the Duke of Sussex travelled from California, where he resides with his wife and their two children, Archie Harrison (4) and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor (2), to the UK after the announcement of his father, King Charles' cancer diagnosis.
During his brief stay, he didn't meet Prince William or Kate Middleton.
