National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday was sworn-in as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister as the Union Territory got its first government after six years.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday was sworn-in as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister as the Union Territory got its first government after six years. Five MLAs, including an independent, took oath as Cabinet Ministers while there was no Congress representation in the new government.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath to Omar Abdullah at the swearing-in ceremony at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, which was attended by several Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The five MLAs who took oath were - Satish Sharma (Independent), Sakina Itoo, Javid Dar, Sunrinder Chowdhury and Javid Rana (all from National Conference).
