President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Modi as Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. Murmu requested Modi to continue in his post till the new government assumed office.

If the NDA forms the government, Modi will be the second leader to retain power for a third term after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
