Two terrorists, who opened fire in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Tuesday evening, initially went door-to-door asking for water. However, watchful villagers slammed the doors in their faces, and alerted the authorities, the police said.

After villagers informed police, a gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists, killing at least one terrorist, and wounding one civilian.

The CRPF, along with the Army and the police, killed the second terrorist who was hiding near Kathua's Saida village on Wednesday noon. At 3 am, he had killed a CRPF jawan after he attempted to break the cordon of the security forces by opening fire at them.

Sharing the details about what transpired in Kathua, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, said that the terrorists infiltrated from across the border in Saida Sukhal village around 8 pm on Tuesday, and asked for water from the household. The vigilant residents quickly notified the police about the incident. Following that, "a police team headed by a sub-divisional police officer and Station House officer rushed to the village," he said.

Witnessing the police, one of the terrorists in a bid to escape tried to throw a grenade at the team but was instantly killed, he added.
