INDIA Bloc Wins Big in Bypolls: Gets 10 Seats, NDA Gets 2

The BJP won two seats recently  one in Himachal Pradesh and another after a tough competition in Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc  a strong challenger to the BJP-led NDA won 10 out of 13 seats in assembly bypolls across seven states. An Independent candidate secured the remaining seat.

The bypolls were conducted on July 10 in West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu. In West Bengal, TMC won all four seats while Congress secured two seats in Himachal Pradesh and both seats in Uttarakhand. AAP won in Punjab and DMK secured victory in Tamil Nadu.

In West Bengal, TMC candidates won Raiganj, Bagda, Maniktala, and Ranaghat assembly seats. TMC’s Krishna Kalyani and Madhuparna Thakur won in Raiganj and Bagda respectively, while Mukut Mani Adhikari and Supti Pandey won in Ranaghat Dakshin and Maniktala. The TMC’s victories included substantial margins over BJP rivals. The BJP managed to win In Himachal Pradesh and had a close contest for the Madhya Pradesh seat. An independent candidate in Bihar defeated NDA’s JD(U) partner to clinch victory.The bypolls results are seen as a boost for TMC following their strong Lok Sabha performance, while BJP faces disappointment after a decline in parliamentary seats.

These bypolls were the first since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections which saw the BJP winning 240 seats – 32 short of the majority. The NDA however managed to cross the halfway mark of 272 with a total tally of 293 seats. The Congress-led INDIA bloc clinched 232 seats.
