Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday approached the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Soren's plea will be heard before the top court on Friday by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
The plea against Soren's arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement was mentioned before the Supreme Court by senior advocate Kapil Sibal.
Sibal also told the court they were withdrawing their case from the Jharkhand High Court, where it was mentioned late on Wednesday.
While the plea was mentioned, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, "Thousands of people are arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, not everyone can come to the Supreme Court."
Responding to the Solicitor General, Sibal said, "Everyone will be arrested before elections."
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Soren after over seven hours of questioning on money laundering charges in an alleged land fraud case.
He said the time has come to wage a war against a feudal system that oppresses the poor, dalits and tribals.
Soren also claimed that he was not linked to the money laundering case in which he was arrested.
Following Soren's resignation, party loyalist and state Transport Minister Champai Soren was named as his successor.
