Drunk UP man calls cops on Diwali eve, reports theft of 250 grams potatoes

As the police questioned him, Vijay Verma insisted that the missing potatoes warranted an investigation.

On Diwali eve in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, cops were caught off guard by an unusual emergency call. When the police team arrived at the spot, they found Vijay Verma, a resident of the village, in a rather distressed state. On questioning, it became clear that Vijay, under the influence of alcohol, had reported a theft - about 250 grams of peeled potatoes missing from his home.

As the police questioned him, Vijay insisted that the missing potatoes warranted an investigation. He explained that he intended to cook the potatoes after enjoying some drinks but found that the vegetables were missing upon returning home.

The absurdity of the situation led the police to begin recording the interaction, which soon went viral on social media.

Verma, moreover, defended his drinking habits while speaking to the cops as he said, "We work hard and drink alcohol for a few days in the evening, but the question is not about alcohol. It’s about the potatoes. Find them."

As the video went viral, social media users couldn’t help but laugh out loud over the incident.
