Dalit man assaulted, urinated upon for demanding wages in Bihar

A Dalit man was thrashed, abused and urinated upon by a father-son duo after he had demanded his wages for the work he did at a poultry farm in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

A Dalit man in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district was thrashed, spat on his face and urinated upon by a father-son duo for demanding his pending wages for the work he did at a poultry farm.

The incident occurred on October 4 when the man, Rinku Manjhi, went to the poultry farm of the accused, Ramesh Patel, demanding wages for the two days of work that he did, according to the victim's complaint.

Infuriated over his wage demand, Rinku was thrashed by Ramesh Patel, his brother Arun Patel and his son Gaurav Kumar, the complaint said, adding that Ramesh Patel and his son Gaurav Kumar also urinated upon the victim and they also spat on his face.

A video of the incident was shared by Rinku Manjhi with the police as evidence against the accused in his complaint that was filed on October 8.

Upon receiving the complaint, a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and SC/ST Act, and an investigation was launched into the matter.

Speaking about the incident, Muzzafarpur's Superintendent of Police (Rural), Vidha Sagar said, "A daily wage worker was abused with casteist slurs by Ramesh Patel, who lives in Karpur North. The man, Rinku, had also worked at Ramesh's place and the incident happened when he demanded his wages. A case was registered and action is being taken."

"We have identified the accused based on the video provided by the man and they will be arrested through an investigation," the official added.

Earlier, in another case in Muzaffarpur, two Dalit men were badly beaten and urinated upon by some men for stealing a motorcycle. The incident occurred when the victims were on their way to attend a rural fair. An FIR was filed against the accused following the incident.
