A curfew has been imposed in three districts in Manipur on Tuesday amid the ongoing conflict in the state.

The conflict in Manipur has escalated again, with recent incidents of violence and protests adding to the turmoil. Due to the escalation of violence in the state, a curfew has been imposed in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.

In an earlier order, the district magistrates of Imphal East and Imphal West had announced relaxation of curfew in the respective districts from 5 am to 10 am on Tuesday. However, due to the "developing law and order situation" in the districts, the relaxation order was cancelled from 11 am on Tuesday and curfew was reimposed in both districts, the DMs said in a release.

A fresh wave of violence has hit Manipur in the past few days. An RPG attack took place in Moirang in Bishnupur district in the state on September 6, which resulted in the death of a person performing a puja at the residence of Manipur's first chief minister, Mairembam Koireng Singh.

Long-range rockets, allegedly deployed by Kuki militants, killed five people in Manipur's Bishnupur district on September 7, following which security measures were tightened across the state. This came after the militants entered the house of a person who lived alone and shot him dead in his sleep, worsening the situation.

A military helicopter was deployed for patrolling and conducting aerial surveys, and a combing operation is also underway. Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, K Kabib claimed that the situation was brought under control.

Over 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki-Zo groups since May last year.
