Congress's praise for 'giant slayer' KL Sharma: 'Truth, service, dedication won'

JJ News Desk

The Congress said "truth, service and dedication" won in a gratitude post for the voters of the Gandhi family bastions of Raebareli and Amethi after the party won the two seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

The post by Congress on X showed Kishori Lal Sharma, who defeated BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi, holding his winning certificate with Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi.

While Rahul Gandhi won his maiden election from Raebareli after Sonia Gandhi moved to the Rajya Sabha, he also secured victory in Kerala's Wayanad by more than 3.64 lakh votes.

In Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi bettered Sonia Gandhi's 2019 victory margin, winning by more than 3.90 lakh votes.

However, Kishori Lal Sharma upset the BJP's applecart in Amethi, which was won by Smriti Irani in 2019 after defeating Rahul Gandhi.

KL Sharma, a Gandhi family loyalist, won the seat in his electoral debut by a margin of over 1.67 lakh votes, emerging as a giant slayer.

On Tuesday, addressing a press conference, Rahul Gandhi said the party loyalist had been working in the constituency for the past 40 years and his victory was certain.

He also attacked the BJP for referring to Sharma as his "personal assistant". "Don’t use terms like PA and steno for Kishori Lal Sharma. He has worked for 40 years in Amethi. The BJP doesn't respect people. The BJP didn't understand how closely connected KL Sharma is with the people of Amethi," Gandhi said.
