Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi notified the speaker Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha, by requesting a “privilege motion” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as have amplified Anurag Thakur’s “objectionable” remark. The Congress party took this move because BJP MP Anurag Thakur has made some controversial remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s caste. This remark created a debate among the parties, and the Congress Party said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged a “serious breach of parliamentary privilege” by sharing their views on X.

A Dalit MP from the Congress party, Channi, claimed in Lok Sabha that it was "shocking to note that the expunged portions had been tweeted by the Prime Minister on ‘X’ along with the whole speech video." "I at this moment give notice to move a privilege motion under Rule 222 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha against the Prime Minister for having tweeted on 'X' a portion of remarks that were expunged from the proceedings of the House by the Chair," the former Punjab chief minister added while talking to the speaker, Om Birla.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Congress party, even expressed his concern over Thakur’s comments and quoted, “Taunting in the House—this doesn't happen in Parliament. Nobody's caste is asked in Parliament... He (Anurag Thakur) said this purposely to insult Rahul Gandhi. Several of their senior BJP  leaders have had inter-caste marriages. They should look at themselves in the mirror and then speak." Mallikarjun targeted PM Modi over sharing the video of Anurag Thakur's comment on his social media and said, “PM Modi should know where to speak and who to defend.”

Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of Congress, explained that the INDIA bloc raised objections against the “insensitive and cruel” remarks made by the BJP leaders inside the Parliament on Wednesday. "We know the caste census is a very emotional issue, and many people in India from the SC, ST, and OBC categories want the census, but their demand was mocked by the BJP in Parliament. They were insulted by the BJP in Parliament, and it is unfortunate that later in the evening, the PM shared that speech and praised that speech." Gogoi spoke to the reporters outside Parliament. "The PM praised the speech that insulted the Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis. We are here fighting for their rights and fighting for the caste census," he added.

Sudhanshu Trivedi, the BJP leader, defended the comment of Anurag Thakur over Rahul Gandhi and criticized the opposition for overtaking the remarks personally: "Anurag Thakur did not take anyone's name; then who is taking this on themselves on their own? There is extreme confusion among the INDI Alliance," Trivedi said. Giriraj Singh, the Union Minister, accused the Congress party of asking them why Rahul Gandhi’s caste is becoming a sensitive topic for them: "I also ask Rahul Gandhi ji, what is your caste? If anybody asks me about my caste, I will tell them. I will tell them that I respect my caste, but Rahul Gandhi will not say anything. They want to break the Hindus; they will not say anything on the issues of Rohingyas," he said.

The heated argument did not end as the right and left wings were trying to put many accusations on each other regarding the derogatory remark against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi over the caste census.
