Bibhav Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal's aide, arrested in Swati Maliwal 'assault' case

JJ News Desk

Bibhav Kumar, aide and former personal secretary of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal. Bibhav Kumar was taken out of the back gate of the Chief Minister's residence.

The development comes two days after Delhi Police registered a case against Kumar following a complaint by Maliwal. In her complaint, Maliwal alleged that Bibhav Kumar slapped her 7–8 times and repeatedly kicked her in her chest and stomach when she went to the Chief Minister's residence on May 13.

Maliwal claimed that the brutal assault by Bibhav did not stop even after she mentioned that she was on her periods.

On Friday, the Delhi Police took Maliwal to Arvind Kejriwal's residence to recreate the crime scene. Her statement was also recorded before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari court.

Meanwhile, Bibhav Kumar has filed a counter-complaint with the Civil Lines police station, alleging that Maliwal had "forcefully and unauthorisedly" entered the Chief Minister's residence.

He also claimed that the former Delhi Commission for Women chairperson tried to "create a ruckus and assault" him. Kejriwal's aide also claimed that the Rajya Sabha MP intended to harm the AAP chief and he strongly "objected".
