A woman who might have been used to "honey trap" Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anwar before he was allegedly murdered has been detained in Dhaka. The woman, identified as Shilanti Rahman, is a Bangladeshi national and the girlfriend of the prime accused Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, Bangladesh police sources told media.
Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen, was a friend of the Awami League MP. The MP was allegedly murdered in Akhtaruzzaman's rented accommodation in Kolkata's New Town area.
Shilanti was present in Kolkata when Anwarul was killed, and she returned to Dhaka along with the main suspected killer, Amanullah Aman, on May 15.
Police sources said Shilanti was used as a honey trap by Akhtaruzzaman to bring Anwarul from Bangladesh to Kolkata.
While police are yet to formally announce the motive of the crime, sources said Akhtaruzzaman killed the Bangladesh MP due to a dispute over some payments. Akhtaruzzaman paid around Rs 5 crore to those involved in the crime.
The West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) made a major breakthrough in the case after it arrested a suspect from Mumbai.
The suspect, Jihad Hawladar, has confessed to murdering the Bangaldeshi MP along with four others at the New Town flat.

During interrogation, Hawladar claimed that the murder was carried out on the orders of Akhtaruzzaman. After killing the MP, they skinned the entire body and minced the flesh to destroy the identity of Anwarul, CID sources said.
The bones were then broken into pieces and put in several plastic packets. The killers then disposed of the packets in different parts of Kolkata.
Hawladar, a professional butcher, is a resident of Barakpur in Bangladesh's Khulna district and was staying in Mumbai illegally for some time. He arrived in Kolkata around two months ago, CID sources claimed.
