Arvind Kejriwal was present after Swati Maliwal was assaulted: Chargesheet

JJ News Desk

The Delhi Police has stated that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also present with his close aide, Bibhav Kumar, immediately after the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal took place at the Chief Minister's residence, according to the chargesheet accessed by India Today.

The police is currently investigating whether this proximity of the Chief Minister to the accused, followed by the subsequent actions by the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, suggests a coordinated effort to cover up the assault.

In the chargesheet filed against Bibhav Kumar, Delhi Police indicated that there could be a larger conspiracy behind the assault.

The police highlighted that following the incident, both AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh changed their statements, raising questions about the potential conspiracy.

On May 14, a day after the assault, Sanjay Singh publicly condemned Bibhav Kumar's actions, promising strict action. However, three days later, Atishi dismissed Maliwal’s allegations at a press conference. This sudden shift in stance within a span of 72 hours prompted the police to probe to see if there was any consultation or conspiracy behind these contradictory stands.

In her supplementary statement, Swati Maliwal expressed her belief in a larger conspiracy, citing the unified support for Bibhav Kumar by AAP leaders and workers. She urged the police to explore this angle, suggesting that the party’s backing of Kumar indicated an orchestrated effort to undermine her.

Eyewitness accounts and statements on the chargesheet paint a grim picture of the assault. Maliwal reportedly endured a merciless beating by Bibhav Kumar, who allegedly slapped her multiple times, dragged her across the room, and kicked her repeatedly. An auto driver stated that Maliwal was visibly distressed and crying, recounting her ordeal over the phone.
