Arvind Kejriwal to appear in court as Enforcement Directorate custody ends today

JJ News Desk

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection to a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, will be produced before a court on Monday as his probe agency custody ends today.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened at the ED headquarters in Delhi, with police barricades put up at the premises.

The probe agency, however, sought a seven-day extension of Kejriwal's custody citing the need to further interrogate the AAP chief in the money laundering case.

While arguing his case earlier that day, the Chief Minister asserted that the ED's only mission was to "trap" him in the liquor policy case.

On its part, the ED claimed that the AAP national convenor was not cooperating with its probe.

It asked the probe agency to file a response by April 2 and fixed the date of hearing on April 3.

The 'Loktantra Bachao' rally at the Ramlila Maidan witnessed the participation of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, among others.

Sunita Kejriwal read out a message from her husband, which said, "I present six guarantees on behalf of the INDIA Alliance. First, there will be no power cuts in the whole country. Second, electricity would be free for poor people. Third, we will build government schools in every village. Fourth, we will build Mohalla Clinics in every village. We will make a multi-speciality government hospital in every district. Everyone would get free treatment."
