Arvind Kejriwal may slip into coma, says AAP, shreds Tihar Jail report

JJ News Desk

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Monday slammed the claims made by the Tihar prison authorities with regard to Arvind Kejriwal's health, in which they said that the Delhi Chief Minister was doing fine and his vitals were normal.

Sanjay Singh, who alleged that Arvind Kejriwal lost 8.5 kg of weight and his blood sugar level dropped below 50 mg/dL five times following his arrest, said that the prison authorities committed a crime by releasing the medical report of an inmate and disagreed with their claim.

"A team of AIIMS doctors has been examining Arvind Kejriwal's health, and they have found out that Kejriwal is losing weight fast and is suffering from hypoglycemia. His blood sugar level dropped below 50 mg/dL five times, which could have caused him to slip into a coma or even resulted in his death", Sanjay Singh claimed.

"The conspiracy that Arvind Kejriwal is pushed to death. The day he was arrested, his weight was 70kgs, which has now come down to 61.5 kgs. I urge PM Modi to not play with Kejriwal's life because if something untoward happens, it will be difficult for the Centre to find an answer", he added.

Earlier on Monday, the Tihar Jail authorities rejected the AAP's allegations with regard to Arvind Kejriwal's health.

The jail authorities stated that the inmate’s health was under continuous monitoring, and he was receiving regular assessments by medical professionals.

According to the Office of the Superintendent of Central Jail No. 2, Kejriwal has been following a medically-prescribed diet, including home-cooked food, as per the court's orders.

"Despite a slight weight loss, his vitals remain normal, and he receives appropriate medical care for all his ailments", jail authorities said in a statement.

The prison officials further emphasised that the health status reports contradict the claims made by AAP ministers and legislators, tagging the narrative as "misleading and driven by ulterior motives" to undermine the prison administration.

"The details have been communicated to various government officials for awareness and necessary action. Now we can offer this with a documented weight chart from 63.5 kg to 61.5 kg from June 2 to July 14", the statement added.

Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail on June 2 after his interim bail, which was allowed by the Supreme Court so that he could campaign for his party during the recent Lok Sabha elections, expired.
